Prof. Massimiliano Granieri is Associate Professor of Comparative Private Law at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of the University of Brescia, Adjunct Faculty at LUISS “Guido Carli” University of Rome at the Department of Management, and at the Widener Law School. For the academic year 2020-2021, he is Fernand Braudel Senior Research Fellow at the European University Institute.

Prof. Massimiliano Granieri earned a J.D. (summa cum laude) in Comparative Law from the LUISS Law School, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, a Ph.D. in Comparative Law from the University of Florence, and he was awarded the Jemolo Fellowship from Nuffield College, Oxford University. He was visiting Ph.D. researcher at the George Washington University National Law Center and visiting scholar at the Jamail Center for Legal Studies of the University of Texas School of Law. He was invited professor at the Fudan University School of Management.

Prof. Massimiliano Granieri has published extensively in the field of economic analysis of law, antitrust, intellectual property, and contract law. He is co/author of six and co-editor of three monographs, and he has published more than a hundred of book chapters and scientific articles. He is member of the editorial board of Il foro italiano, Annali italiani del diritto d’autore, and Il diritto di oggi, il diritto di domani. He is member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Italian Association of Comparative Law, and the Italian Society of Law and Economics.

In his professional life, Prof. Massimiliano Granieri has been admitted to practice as an attorney-at-law at the Rome Bar in Italy. He is currently serving as Chairman of the board of directors of MITO Technology, the largest Italian intellectual property licensing company, and SYRTO, a spin-off company of the University of Brescia which develops early warning systems for financial markets. He also serves as member of the Academic Advisory Board of the European Patent Academy, and board member of NETVAL, the Italian Network for the Valorization of Research, and ITL, a spin-off company of the University of Brescia.

In the past, he was Head of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer group at the Fondazione Torino Wireless, Vice President of ASTPPRoton (the pan-European association of technology transfer professionals), Legal Counsel with the Office of Technology Transfer of University of California Oakland (working in the field of university/industry relations and international technology transfer deals), board member of ARTI Puglia (the regional agency for technology and innovation) and Mekna (a biomechanical mechanics manufacturing company). He also acted several times as consultant for the European Patent Office and he was member of the IPR Expert Group for the exploitation of patents at the Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission.
