Dr Valerio Cosimo Romano is Associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, Adjunct Professor of Principles of Civil Law at LUISS “Guido Carli” and Competition Law at LUMSA, and Research Fellow at the Law & Economics LAB.
Dr Valerio Cosimo Romano practices EU/national competition law and international/national commercial arbitration. His professional portfolio for antitrust/competition law includes cartels, restrictive horizontal and vertical practices, abuse of dominant position and economic dependence, antitrust private damages litigation, antitrust compliance, merger integration planning and control filings. As for litigation and arbitration, he has, inter alia, acted as counsel and ad-hoc clerk in ICC, CAS/TAS, CAM, and AIA proceedings. Further, he has a specific expertise in TMT, media, financial services, construction, and engineering. Before joining his current firm, he practiced law at CDAA Studio Legale Tributario, and he was Associate at the law firm Allen & Overy LLP, for which he has been listed in Chambers Europe 2016 as “notable practitioner” and “key contact” of the antitrust department in Italy. In 2017, his team won the TMT law firm of the year award at the Legalcommunity Awards.
Dr Valerio Cosimo Romano earned a degree with honors in Law from LUMSA University of Rome in 2009. Further, he received an LL.M. from the University of Hamburg, the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the Ghent University within the European Master in Law and Economics in 2011. In 2013 he spent a full year as Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School. In 2015 he received his Ph.D. in Law and Economics from LUISS “Guido Carli” University of Rome. He was Transatlantic Technology Law Fellow at Stanford Law School from 2016 to 2018, with the research project “The law and economics of planned obsolescence: a Transatlantic antitrust investigation”, and he held positions as Research Assistant both at Harvard Law School and LUISS “Guido Carli”.
